Auditions

Before The Auditions

During Pre-Production the Director, along with the PSM, will plan and implement the Auditions to choose the cast.

Auditions are open to all and so should be advertised to the public, and should be scheduled for multiple days, depending on how many roles you are casting. Call backs can be done at your discretion. It is very important that there not be any appearance of favoritism or nepotism, so there will not be any “reserved roles”. All roles need to be available to those auditioning. PSMs will assist the Director in acquiring and disseminating information needed by auditioners.

The Director may have whoever they wish to help with auditions on the day of, but at a minimum they must have their Production Stage Manager and Marketing Manager as part of the audition panel. For musicals, it is highly recommended that the Musical Director be there as well.

Audition Days

A list of responsibilities for PSMs in regards to auditions includes, but not limited to:

  1. Audition Site Set up
  2. Audition Score Sheets prepared and printed
  3. Headshots
  4. Time Management
  5. Call Back Policies
  6. Gathering all waiver/information sheets

The IT Manager is responsible to see that registration computers are set up and any on-line registration forms are working.

Cast List

It is mandatory that the Director or PSM personally call each actor to offer them the role, and that they have accepted before you announce the cast. Once you have received a firm yes from every actor, the cast list will go to the Marketing Manager who will make up SVCT only posts to congratulate the new cast.

The Marketing Manager will post the cast list on (public) social and conventional media only after actor contracts are signed. In the case that there are youth performers in the production, the youth supplemental waiver that outlines what form the actor’s name can be posted must be signed by each parent or legal guardian before the cast list can be posted publicly on social media.
