This should be the final week of rehearsals. All aspects of the show will run as if it was a true performance, including costumes, make-up, SFX, pre-show and intermission. Tech Crew will be in full dress including tech crew gear (flashlight, knife, etc.).
Notes are very important, but should come from the PSM. If the director take notes, it is recommended to hand them to the PSM to give to the actors.
The PSM and Sound Board Operator (SBO) will begin running formal microphone checks during Dress Week. During these checks, the house should be quiet to ensure the SBO and PSM can hear the speaker output. Each performer will have their microphone attached with the help of the SBO, and then will test the mic. The SBO will adjust the gain to eliminate any peaking, then use the individual volume to adjust the output.
The PSM and Lighting Board Operator (LBO) will begin lighting checks. LBO will bring up each light and the PSM will walk the rail ensuring that each light is working. The LBO will then run the first 10 cues to ensure transitions are working properly.
In shows that have fights or pratfalls, the PSM will ensure that the Fight Call happens prior to the house being open. The Fight Call must cover every fight/pratfall in the show, and be overseen by the fight captain.
At the end of Dress Week, the Director may elect to have a Preview Night. This will be run as a “soft opening”, and will take the form of a full show. This is where we invite company members and family members to watch the show. But it may not be open or advertised to the public.
This is also “Blitz Week” for Marketing. The marketing manager should push for a flood of exposure this week including social media, street teams, interviews, actor takeovers, etc…
