The Load In is when the set and other items for the production are moved onto or constructed on the stage.
It is expected that the set build will be mostly complete before Load In, with the exception of any elements that must be built in place and some painting. This is why the stage design needs to be completed and signed off shortly after Onboarding.
Load In will commence after the preceding show has been struck from the stage (Load Out). Load In will be overseen by the Master Builder, with assistance from the Set Designer, Director, PSM and/or the SVCT Master Carpenter, as needed.
Before Load In, the Master Builder and PSM will meet with the previous production's Master Builder to see what elements of the previous set can be reused and to work out the schedule for Load Out and Load In. The Master Builder will also create a load in plan with a crew and assignments ready to go.
The PSM’s job for Load In is to ensure that everyone is communicating, and that the Master Builder is ready to go, has a completed plan, and adequate help.
