User Maintenance
Every SVCT volunteer should have their own user entry for this website. if a volunteer does not have a SVCommunityTheatre.org email address, you can use their regular email address.
Add a new user
. Go to Admin > User Manager.
. Scroll down to the Add user section.
. Fill in the following values.
| User | This is the user ID. Usually the same as their @svcommunitytheatre.com email address: [first name] . [initial of their last name]. |
|---|---|
| Password | Can be filled in or left empty. If empty, a password will be generated by the website. You can ignore the very weak, policy not met message. |
| Real Name | The user's real name. Will be displayed on any pages they have edited |
| Required. Their full SVCT email address -or- another email address if they do not have SVCT email. | |
| Groups | Can leave blank. (Will default to user, which will give them normal volunteer access.) Enter readonly if you don't want them to have edit capabilities. |
| Notify user | ☑ if you want the website to send out an email “[SVCT Wiki] Your DokuWiki password” with their user name & password. |
. Then click [Add]. The user will be added and is available for immediate use.
Update a user's information
It is recommended that the volunteer go in and change their own information using the Update Profile link at the top of any page. If you make changes here, they will probably end up with a new password.
Normally, the only time you should need to edit a user entry is when changing their Group between user and readonly.
. Go to Admin > User Manager.
. In the user list, locate the user to be updated and click on their user ID.
. The page will scroll and populate the Edit user section next to Add user.
, Go in and make any needed changes. Warning: If you leave Password blank, a new password will be generated. (And yes, that's annoying).
. ☑ Notify user so it will send out an email “[SVCT Wiki] Your DokuWiki password” with their user name & new password.
. Click [Save Changes]. The user will be added and is available for immediate use.
Disable a volunteer's edit capability
As noted above, if you want to disable a volunteer's edit capability, use Update a user's information above and change their Group to readonly.
Reset a user's password
Passwords are encrypted (technically, hashed). If a volunteer forgets their password, there is no way to recover it.
The easiest thing to do is have the volunteer click the Set new password option on the Log In page and create a new password.
if the volunteer does not remember their user name, you can look it up using Admin > User Manager.
Delete a user
Yes, you can delete a user entry. That is normally done only when the volunteer is no longer a part of SVCT. Any wiki changes made by the volunteer will remain in place.
. Go to Admin > User Manager.
. In the user list, locate the user to be updated and tick the checkbox ☑ next to their user ID.
. Click [Delete Selected]. It will ask for a confirmation and then erase the user.
