Sign in and making changes
The goal is to make it easy and fast for any SVCT (Sierra Vista Community Theatre) volunteer to add new information and fix errors.
Who can access this wiki and make changes?
Everyone can view most of the pages in this wiki website. Only SVCT volunteers are allowed to sign in and have full access and editing capability.
How do I get a sign in user name?
If you have an SVCT email address, the part before the @ sign should be your user name.
To get a user name, talk to someone you are volunteering with at SVCT and ask them to have you added as a wiki user. They will forward your full name (first & last) and email address to a Wiki Admin.
When added, you will receive an email titled “[SVCT Wiki] Your DokuWiki password”. Keep an eye on your Spam folder, just in case. It will contain you user name and a your password. This will be different than your SVCT email password.
Use the Log In link on the top right of any page and sign in. You will have full access to the Wiki, including the ability to edit and add pages.
What's my password? What happens if I don't have it or forget it?
Passwords are encrypted. If you forget your password (or don't know what it is), just request a new one. Go to the Log In screen and click on the Set new password link. You'll be sent an email with a web link that will allow you to create a new password.
What's this? Too many failed login attempts.
In order to protect the Wiki from hackers, you have 3 chances to correctly enter your user name and password. After that, you'll get a message: Too many failed login attempts. Next attempt allowed in 2 minutes. If you mess up on that next attempt, the wait time goes up to 4 minutes, then 8 minutes, and so on.
If you see this message on your first try, that means that someone else was trying to break in using your user name, Give it a few minutes and you should be able to log in. If it becomes a problem, let a Wiki Admin know.
Can I change my information?
Yes. Once signed in, click on the Update Profile link in the top right corner of any page. You can then change your Real Name, Email Address, and Password.
Isn't giving edit access to all the volunteers dangerous?
It could be, but we trust that you and other volunteers will be careful and not abuse the privilege.
This model has worked well for Wikipedia and thousands of other Wiki's.
What happens if I mess things up?
Life happens and things do not always go as planned.
If you run into a problem or make an change that messes things up, just contact a Wiki Admin. They can undo any damage and help you understand what happened. No problem, we are all learning.
if a volunteer is willfully making a mess of things, their edit privileges will be revoked. They may also be asked to leave SVCT and/or suffer public humiliation.
Is there somewhere I can practice making changes?
Yes, use the Playground page. You can change things and experiment all you want without messing anything up.
To start your editing journey, make sure you have a wiki user name and check out Making Simple Changes.
