You work with the Director as partners and lead the production, including taking charge of the production when Tech Week arrives.

Job Description
The Production Stage Manager is a member of the Production Team for their show. They act as the Director’s partner throughout the production process and attend all meetings with the Director to include design meetings, casting calls, and all rehearsals.
The PSM is directly responsible for making sure that the director’s vision is accurately portrayed and ensures that all theatre rules are followed at all times. They are responsible for the schedule, sending all reports to the production team, and to the Artistic Director and Show Director. PSM’s will connect with each designer as needed, and run rehearsals in the director’s absence.
During Tech Week, the PSM takes full responsibility for the production through the duration of the run. They are responsible for ensuring the tech week runs smoothly and efficiently. The PSM runs all aspects of the show once tech week begins to include dress rehearsals and all shows, and will ensure that all shows run smoothly sending show reports to the production team. During the run, the PSM will call all lighting/sound/stage/fly cues from the tech booth.
Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
- Ensures the Director’s vision is met
- Ensures all company rules and regulations are followed
- Runs all rehearsals to include pick up rehearsals (when necessary)
- Calls cues for the production
- Overall responsible for safety and cleanliness of the rehearsal and performance space.
- Ensures any incident reports are filled out and submitted properly
- Sends rehearsal and show reports to the different departments and production team
- Trains and evaluates the technical crew of each production
- Overall responsible for all props, costumes, set pieces and technical equipment for the production.
- Enforces all due dates and deadlines
Prerequisites
PSMs must be available for all meetings, rehearsals, tech week and all shows of the run.
They must have worked three productions as an Assistant Stage Manager, OR produce a resume showing comparable experience as a Stagehand or Dresser, Props Master, Lighting/Sound Board Operator, and ASM. They must attend Tech Meetings, receive good evaluations from previous PSMs, Technical Director Approval, and Director Approval.

Stage Manager's Kit
A PSM should have a kit they bring with them to every rehearsal and performance. This kit should include (but not be limited to) the following:
- Pencils
- Highlighters
- Pens
- Gaffers Tape
- First Aid Kit
- Nu-skin
- Headache medicine
- Glue
- Eye drops
- Tampons
- Needle and Thread
- Phone Chargers
- Batteries
- Knife
- Flashlight
Safety/Emergency Protocol
The PSM is the primary safety officer for the production.
In the case of an emergency, they will take charge of everyone in the theatre. They will be responsible for ensuring that the authorities are called, if necessary, and oversee any evacuation, triage or other protocols that must be followed.
The PSM will fill out an incident report for any emergency, ensuring that they have input from at least 1 witness.
Build/Fabricator/Master Management
Once the designers have completed their designs, the builders/fabricators/Masters designated for that production will begin the build process. The PSM will be responsible to ensure that all deadlines are met, and that the designers, director and builders are all in contact with each other.
The goal is to have everything completed by the beginning of Tech Week.
Department Point of Contact
The PSM is the point of contact for all SVCT departments as it relates to the production. Designers and builders use the departments as resources for their products, but ultimately must answer to the production team, and more specifically the PSM, as it relates to preparation for the show.
