Assemble Tech Crew

Every production has a show running tech crew. This crew will be chosen and managed by the PSM, and will consist of personnel who are responsible for all technical aspects of the production.

The PSM will use the Technical Department roster, with the assistance of the SVCT Technical Director, to choose their crew, and update the roster with their crew’s experience at the end of the production. PSMs will ensure they choose crew members who are qualified by SVCT standards to perform the tasks associated with each position.

Crew Positions

Every show has, at a minimum, the following tech crew positions in addition to the PSM:

  • Deck Team
    • Assistant Stage Manager (ASM)
    • Props Master (PM)
    • Stagehand(s)
  • Booth Team
    • Light Board Operator
    • Sound Board Operator

Tech Crew Rules

PSMs will ensure that all members of the Tech Running Crew abide by the following rules:

  1. Crew members will sign and abide by the Tech Crew Agreements.
  2. Crew members will be expected to wear all black.
  3. Crew members are expected to carry a flashlight, knife, and work gloves.
  4. Crew members will arrive by tech call time, which will normally be a minimum of 30 minutes prior to actor call.
  5. Crew members are expected to assist actors when needed
  6. Crew members are responsible for enforcing rules and directives from the PSM to the actors.
  7. Crew members will report any incidents they observe to the PSM or ASM.

Crew Evaluations

One of the most important aspects of the PSM’s job is to identify tech crew members who would make good stage managers so the theatre can continue to cultivate talent and leadership. The PSM will, therefore, evaluate each crew member.

During all activities, the PSM should be keeping track of the technical crew members' performance of their jobs. Evaluations should be done regarding punctuality, interpersonal skills, technical knowledge and application, and reliability. Some crew members will be evaluated directly by the ASM, with the guidance of the PSM.

These evaluations will be turned in to the SVCT Technical Director.
